This track came from a dream (like so many songs I do). In the dream, the scene was a bayou late night with a juke joint close by and a bunch of Spanish Moss trees. Flying underneath the tree tops and over the bayon stream was a red hawk with a broken wing. The hawk tries flying into the trees but keeps dipping close to the bayou water... and the waiting mouth of a huge alligator. The hawk isn't coming low enough to the water so the alligator start lunging out of the water trying to snap it's jaws around the hawk and make it a meal as juke joint players and patrons gather outside the place and watch the life or death encounter. The alligator snaps the tail of the hawk a few times but the hawk stays lucky. The snare I used and it's cadence is what the alligator was doing when I jumped out the water. I hunted for the right combination of snares and compression until I got the exact same snare I heard in my dream, and then I built the rest of the song around it. All I knew it I wanted it to be downsouth juke band and that I wanted a sax in it. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it.
